Schedule: After an initial training period this position offers a hybrid or flexible schedule.

 

Position Summary: Responsible for performing accounting duties for Garland Power & Light within Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements. Duties include but are not limited to fixed asset accounting, journal entry preparation, account reconciliation, & special projects as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor timely & accurate reporting of all CWIP & Fixed Asset activity ensuring the proper accounting treatment.

  • Close CWIP as projects are placed in service.

  • Coordinate the closure of CIP with budget.

  • Record assets acquisitions and retirements.

  • Update fixed asset register.

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts including CWIP, Inventory, and Property, Plant and Equipment.

  • Participate in annual asset roll forward process.

  • Prepare monthly journal entries & supporting schedules.

  • Coordinate with various departments to gather data and support their information needs.

  • Participate in system implementation and upgrade projects such as general ledger and work order & asset management system.

  • Develop & analyze management reports.

  • Create ad hoc reports for GP&L departments as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree in Accounting 5 years of progressive Accounting experience

 

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree Accounting CPA or CPA candidate

  • Electric Utility accounting experience preferred

  • Strong background and expertise in fixed asset accounting and/ or cost accounting preferred

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficient knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB)

  • Ability to analyze, research, & prepare financial reports

  • Ability to apply applicable laws, codes, and regulations

  • Ability to work independently Establish & maintain effective working relationships and maintain customer focus

  • Proficient skills in Accounting & ERP systems

  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint)

  • Proficient in preparing and analyzing financial reports

  • Strong attention to detail skills

 

Licenses and Certifications

 

  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license
