About the Speaker:
Patty Granville has been the Director of the Garland Center for the Performing Arts since its opening in 1982. She was one of the founders of the Garland Summer Musicals and has served as Producer of the GSM since its inception in 1983. Patty has a degree in Theatre and Speech from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia and a Master's in Theatre from the University of North Texas. She played the romantic lead in the famous outdoor drama The Common Glory and then became "Miss Patty" on the nationally syndicated children's TV show Romper Room.
In addition to leading roles at Casa Mañana and dinner theatres throughout the southwest, Patty has been featured in numerous productions of the GSM, including 1996 when she co-starred with the late legendary Broadway performer John Raitt in South Pacific. Special musicals include: Hello Dolly, Mame, Annie Get Your Gun, Will Rogers Follies, Anything Goes, Gypsy, Carnival, I Do! I Do! and CATS! Recent favorite roles has been Queen Eleanor in GCT's The Lion in Winter and Queen Elizabeth in Mary Stuart.
In recent years, Patty has been quite overwhelmed with two major accolades. In 2002, the GISD Fine Arts Division named an annual high school theatre awards program in her honor; and on February 4, 2003, the Garland City Council voted to rename the Garland Performing Arts Center, the Patty Granville Arts Center.
